Honestly.... I liked it! Probably more than liked it. I saw the trailer for this one before I watched it and I thought I was going to dislike it. But the movie hooked me in pretty early and it just became better and better... Except for the ending, but that could have been A LOT worse! So good on you movie!
The story... It's a little confusing on where everything takes place, but I think it takes place in ancient time in a world where magic excists, not in a magic world. First I thought it was going to be like Narnia from watching the trailer, a girl comes to a house and find a door to another world.... It's not. After her father dies she moves in with her uncle who is very rude to her, but still says that she belongs there. Confused she tries to find someone else in the house to talk to that hopefully isn't rude to her and can explain some weird things that are going on in the house. She finds a weird man, wizard, that tells her that the house and the land around it is cursed and only one girl can save it. She is that one girl.
What I liked about it is the characters. Some of you might say that they are bland and boring but I, who have seen characters that doesn't stay true to themselves, say that these characters are better than a lot better than those we see today. For one: they never break their character. If a character is brave, it's brave. If the character is the comic relief, it is. And if the character is a broody man who is rude, he is like that for the majority of the movie until the ending where he of course learns the lesson. I really liked that and that's what I'm talking about when I'm mentioning the characters in this blog. They need to stay true to... Yeah, you get the idea.
The other thing I liked was the story. It's a pretty simple one, but it doesn't really follow the old clichés. For one SPOILERS SPOILERS the thing that breaks the curse isn't love. The thing that creates the curse isn't just because people hate each other because of one thing that happened millions of years ago. I thought this was very refreshing, yes it happens more often that love doesn't save the day, but it was the "evil" part that this movie did great. Not the hero part... If you get my meaning. So that's what I really liked with the story.
NO SPOILERS HERE: Then there were these other things that I liked about the movie, like the music, the clothes, the setting, the lighting(they really thought about it!), the make up and small stuff like that. The majority of this movie I really liked, but the big things are the characters and the story so... Moving on to what I didn't like.
I didn't like the special effects for this one. Sure it looks nice, but at times it looks SO fake! But if you can overlook those things, that's just a minor problem and it just appears with two animals that they were using. Also I have to tell you they are using both a real dog and mix it with CGI so, there you have it! They were just half lazy.
And yeah, the ending was a little messy with everything, I think they didn't want to do the cliché but at the same time fool the audience that they were going to do the cliché so... It wasn't really clear on that part and I didn't really like SPOILER SPOILER that the little girl could save the day by herself. In the end everyone is gathered in the same spot and they're trying to break the curse. At first the little girl is trying to get everyone to apologize for their mistakes, but nobody wants to. So she then tries to do it herself and it works... I did not like that. Even though it was done with some thought in it, but yeah... Not enough I must say. Still, it kind of works.
And that's all I'm going to say about it! I recomend it. It was a fun watch and I found many characters I liked and loved to follow them on their journey and see them progress forward so... Yeah. It was a good movie! I will definitely see this movie again!
Breath... Just remember to breath... I thought this movie was... Dare I say it? ... Boring.
It frustrates me because this movie had SO much talent in it, and NONE of it was being used! Before I rant about this movie, let me tell you how I was introduced to it:
After Twilight, everyone became obsest about vampires... And after a while I saw the newspaper writing about Tim Burton and his new movie Dark Shadows. They said that he wanted to try to reintroduce us to the "old cursed vampires"... Tim, you're not BRAVE enough to do it! Sorry to say it, but you're not.
I'm not gonna get into what vampires are because everyone has their own adaptations and stuff like that and so have I so if you're curious... You probably already know what they are. So yeah, I'm not getting into that.
I can explain the plot very simple: The humans act like humans and Johnny Depp does funny poses. That's the movie for ya! Intrigued?
This movie has several plots in them that doesn't really go anywhere. There's the first and main plot that Barnabas Collins is in love with a woman and of course she loves him back, but there's this other woman who loves him too and can't see them two together so she devote her entire life to tear them apart. She has some magic behind her to help her with this task and of course a hot body to go with it.
Another plot is that the family business has collapsed and of course Barnabas don't want to his family business tear apart so he restors it.
Another plot is that Barnabas wants to fit in with this new colture that he's not familiar with because he had been inprisoned in a coffin for 200 years! Why was he inprisoned? Boy, do I wonder! They do explain it in the movie but the logic behind it was not there so I missed it!
And that's the best I can give on the plot. Here's why it doesn't work:
It's chaos! So much happens yet so little happens that it's just... No! It doesn't work! It feels like three short movies were cut together that they just calles an hour and 48 minutes long movie! In the beginning you'll see Barnabas waking up as a vampire killing people, then you see him acting weird with this new things in the world because he has slept in for 200 years! And then we see him rebuild the family business and after that we see him getting seduced by a which and he falls for it, wait what?! He's a vampire and still he falls for a human seduction? ... No, sorry, but NO! And then we have the ending... which I'm NOT gonna say here. I'll save that for the end but yeah! ... It's just chaos!
What was good with this movie? ... Wait! Let me think.... Well... Johnny Depp, as much as I don't really like him.. I must agree that he's a good actor and he really lives into every role that he has. That's the only good part with this movie. I'm do frustrated because there was so much talent behind this movie and NONE of it was being used... Absolutely none of it!
When I watched Alice in Wonderland, the Tim Burton version, I said that Johnny Depp can do better. This was actually giving me satisfactory with his performans. He gave his all into this role and that was great to see... For everybody else in this movie... I felt they were just thrown away just so Johnny could shine even more. Well, OK, Eva Green gave it her all too and that was a great performance also, but still... It was such a waste of talent! Helena Bonham Carter, I love her, she has a lot of talent but... Non of it were shown in this movie. Michelle Pfeiffer, her performance in Stardust was excellent! Not so much in this movie.. Christopher Lee is also wonderful talented in everything he does and.. The screen time he gets is lesser than it was in Sleepy Hollow! Danny Elfman does the music! ... He does the music for the climax anyway! In the other part of the movie there's just constant pop songs! Waste of talent!
I also felt like this story wasn't made from its characters... The story made the characters, which made them stiff. I felt like I was watching plastic dolls moving around the sets that a recorded uninterested voice spoke for them! The characters was as dull as my wardrobe door, flat and colorless. They had backstories and actions, but no reasons for their actions. They had no personalities and to watch a doll drift around on the set... It becomes pretty boring pretty fast. This movie had no purpose. The characters had no purpose other than to be funny.. Ever tried to be funny to your friends? It never works. Those things comes naturally not when you're trying to be funny! If you have no characters you have no story! The story comes from the character NOT the other way around! No matter how much you try to do that!
Without purpose the scenes that are put together doesn't matter so why should I be invested in a thing that doesn't matter? There were so many things that just seemed they were thrown together in the last minute! The main plot which should be about Barnabas and the woman that he loves right? This movie concentrates on Barnabas and the woman who seduces him. Victoria, the woman he loves, get's SO little screen time. We see her in the beginning getting introduced to the family, we see her getting introduced to Barnabus, we see her for a five second long shot with the popsong singing, we see her kissing Barnabas, we see her in the ending... ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!!! Develope her character! Develope their love!!! I hate when, in books, characters get together just because the author wants them to get together! NO! Give the character life! How do you do that? Get the character to ask questions! Why are we humans? Because we ask questions, that's how it works! Do something with it!!! That's were the audience can get sucked in by the story because the character feels something because it asks questions.
And then we have the part where the father cheats with another woman and Barnabas gives him one choice: Either be the kind of father his children diserves or leave and never come back. The father leaves... Nothing came out of that scene! The son cries for one scene and then he's back to normal, his actions doesn't change or anything... He didn't have a personality to begin with so why would he get some personality now?!
And then there's this... In the climax, in the beginning of it (don't need spoiler alert because it won't spoil anything for you, I promise) we discover that their daughter has been a warewolf this whole time.... Why? .... Why? .... WHY?! They do explain it, but the explaination is SO weak and... Why haven't this been seen earlier? Why haven't we seen this before and no.. NO! That's NOT a WAREWOLF!!!! What happened to the good old warewulfs?! I'm not a warewolf fan, never was, but... I still don't want to see those warewolves be forgotten. But anyway! Sidetrack! I think they mentioned it ONCE and it was during a popsong so... That doesn't count! Why was she a warewolf? It doesn't make sense! You didn't need it!
I think I've gone through everything... The bigger things that disturbed me anyway. Now I'll be talking about the ending. If you haven't seen the movie yet and doesn't want anything spoiled for you, stop read here. Here I go..
SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS!
The climax... If I tell you it's nothing but chaos will you believe me? THE REST OF THE MOVIE IS NOTHING BUT CHAOS SO WHY WOULDN'T THE CLIMAX BE NOTHING BUT CHAOS?!!!!!!!!!!! ... Breath... Remember to breath.. First it's the fight between Barnabas and the which like it should be. And I was finally recognizing Danny Elfmans music that just gives me shivers everytime I listen to it... Then a gun comes in the way. A woman that owns the Cullins house shoots the which and says "Get out of my house!" ... Did I really just hear that cliché line? I thought we were passed that line. And yeah, then their daughter shows up and she's a warewolf.. She get's killed in a second... OK, we don't see if it kills her but she faints or something! And you know what stops the climax? Not Barnabas, no no... He's a vampire! He's not a hero in this movie! He doesn't stop the evil which no no! ... Turns out the son to the father who left have been talking to his ghost mother the entire movie and it's the ghost mother who we have NOT seen before.. SHE'S the one who kills the which! ... Kind of. I wanted to strangle the movie when I saw that! The climax is as long as Optimus Primes fight with the Fallen and SO many characters gets in the way of it... That just frustrates me!
And then Barnabas goes after Victoria to stop her to commit suicide (it's a whole story), but yeah.. He doesn't really success and in the fall he turns her into a vampire... There is no way in HELL he had the time to bite her, suck her blood until she was near death and then give her his blood in that fall! No way in hell! Also they forgot a small little detail.. Her mouth didn't have ONE drop of blood around it! So not only must he have had the time to turn her, he also had the time to wipe her mouth?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!! Why didn't she die?! The movie would be SO much better if she had died! Then I wouldn't be as frustrated at it as I am! Then the movie would've had some kind of dignity! But NO! We have to make the whole movie a clichéd joke! Why?!
This movie made me so frustrated it made me cry. I have NEVER felt so bad about a movie before. I have NEVER cried out of frustration for a movie before in my entire life! It just felt like a waste of time for all those people who worked on it. They're talented people! Why not make something good?!
Maybe you think I'm being unfair, but this is really how I feel. You're here because you want to know what my feelings towards this movie was, I'm just giving you that. What you think about the movie is up to you.
.. So frustrated! I'm gonna watch something I like now! Bye for now! And Happy Halloween!!
This movie... I didn't really like it, but it was OK. Also I'm angry with it... Yeah! So now I'm gonna tell you in more detail, but first a look back!
Men In Black 1
I secretly liked it at first but I was scared of it. I was really frightened when I was a child and I sat with my family, my mother and my brother, and saw this film at home. My mother liked it, my brother loved it, I liked it, but was scared of it. Now when I'm older.... Loving it! The soundtrack is much better in the movie than just listening to it, Danny Elfman has done a fantastic job as always. The acting is top! I love the man who's playing the bug because he is doing a splendid job here! The colors, the make up, the special effects are all so fantastic! The characters are great also, the partnership between K and J.. Do I even have to mention it because everybody knows it and loves it. Tommy Lee Jones always so fantastic and Will Smith as well! The story is just another perspective, a what if story, what if there were aliens on earth and why we don't know about it.. is because someone is hiding them. That's the story, but why it's so good is because we're introduced to another world through the characters and we follow them in their "every day life"... Yeah! Why this movie was scary for me was because of the performance of the bug and the make up they gave him. That's why I love him today because he is so believable! Anyway! I'm babbling here so I'm gonna move on to the next movie!
Men In Black 2
I've always liked this movie. When I was a child and this one came out I watched this because it was more "kid friendly"... It was! It was more humor, no scay man where a bug wears a humans skin. Instead we have a woman that you can see walking down the street.... If you're lucky. Who isn't the least bit scary. She has a sex appeal... Yay! Anyway! I'm trying to remember right now what she wanted... But I don't really remember.... So we're skipping that part, watch the movie if you're curious. But yeah, this one was more "kid friendly" with more humor and stuff like that... Instead of K we now get Franky and... no.. He's just in it for comedy.. Last movie was just J for the comedy, but around him was pretty much all seriousness... In Men In Black 2... J isn't the only one that's funny! So yeah, but I still liked it, I still do because the comedy is still contained and funny. It never get's emberassed funny like they can do.. And yeah, I like the worms in this one. Anyway!
I'm not actually here to talk about Men In Black 1 and 2... I'm just telling you my oppinion on the previous movies so here goes.. The one I'm gonna talk about... Men In Black 3.
The story is something like this: J and K are partners, K get's threaten by someone he injurnerd and put to jail a while ago. That someone travels back into the past and kills off K. J is the only one that knows about the "other future" that might have happened if K survived his future threat. So he has to go back to the past and save K. Also he has to save the planet from an invasion.
Like many third sequels this one tries to follow up the first movie... But they forget about the details! That's this movie MAIN problem. They don't take up the details. Like the opening: When I first saw it, I sat back and the movie began.. I heard the original soundtrack and I got goosebumps. I was screaming at the screen "That's how you begin a Men In Black movie!" ... Then the visuals didn't match up... How did the other two began? The first one began in space, and then we follow the camera to a dragonfly that's flying on the road while the music is playing and showing off the credits and then the bug dies on the window to a car. Perfect! The other movie starts first with a backstory on a TV screen, then a shot in space as the original soundrtack is playing and we follow a spaceship flying through the universe and destroys planets. Then it lands on earth, let's out a... alien who then scares a dog. Great! ... Not this movie.. It starts with a prison escape on moon... All I could think to myself was: TRANSFORMERS! Transformers 3 were on the moon, the story came from the moon... Did Men In Black run out of ideas so they had to steal from Transformers?
Details is the most important thing to remember, it can ruin a whole movie if you miss them. Just asking a couple of questions... If K dies 40 years ago, how could he have recruited J? K was the one who came to the police office and talked to J about his alien accounter, after that they went out and talked about something that only K would talk about then they went out and had a talk and it was after THAT that K told James about the Men in Black. Only K could have done this thing because J and him have this conection that started from the beginning. So... If he didn't do it, who did? The day when K disappears, everybody didn't know who K was, but they did know him... Why? It doesn't make sense..
There's all these other stuff that K did that would happen if he died before the first movie so... I don't get it, but! Moving on! The main problem with this movie is that J has become a symbol, not a character. K has become a symbol not a characters... These are not characters anymore like they were in the first one and half of the second one... They are just tools that are trying to follow a path that happened years ago! J has no other purpose than being funny. K has no other purpose than being broody... It's not very interesting to watch.
K was a fast talking guy that tried to have fun but was always interrupted by his job, by the things he know. Like in the restaurant where J and K meet for the second time to have pie, he is laughing! Hard laughing, but then he has to come back to reality and that's why he's brooding. He can't enjoy life anymore because he had to give up his dreams, his family everything he enjoyed in life because he knew too much. That's why he wanted to forget everything and trained J to take over for him. In the third movie... He's brooding because he's K and he does that! .. I'm just.. Why doesn't K ask J again to make him forget his life with the Men In Black? Why isn't he angry that J never can do anything for himself? He had a chance for a normal life and J took him back from it because he needed help... I would be angry, if I've been brooding for sooooo long and then I'm finally rewarded with another life and then someone takes it away from me.. I would be like: "Fine! I'll help save the world for one last time... again! But then I want a freaking big vecation and a restrainingorder from the Men In Black!"
Men In Black worked because of the monsters and the characters.. If none of them work.. What else do you have left?
Also there was another thing that they forgot about the Men In Black.. They're secrete! J originally was from the police and then acted like a police would do, shoot the bad guy if he was a threat, shoot at the car to get him to slow down. That's why K taught him that he couldn't do that with these weapons. Far too many people would notice and they could only live a happy life if they didn't know that alien existed!
They really ignore that sentence here! "They have one of these neuralyzer that they use all the time!" ... No they didn't. That was used in special cases and interviews. NOT so they could do whatever they wanted!
Now I'm just gonna talk about the small details that drove me nuts but aren't that important so... If you don't care about that, go see the movie and make up your own oppinion. Have fun watching!
Yeah! So... Details... First one was Z dies and there's a funeral. At this funeral K speaks and it doesn't really makes sense, but what doesn't makes MORE sense is that the one that takes Z's place is starting to talk an alien language... The most annoying part is that J gets surprised and can't seem to understand her... YOU DID THE SAME THING!!! Did you forget? You did the beatbox thing with the aliens in the post office when you were getting K! Why are you surprised when another member from the MIB are ding the same thing?
The second thing! The elevator... No, this is interesting! They've been upgrading the elevator from the second movie, in the first and second movie it was a regular elevator with a front and back door, but now they've upgraded it into a glass, round elevator that only opens in the front..... I think. The thing about details is... you have to think about them. Why would they have that glass elevator in the 1969?! I don't blame them for keeping up the technology with the weapons and stuff because they could have gotten that from the aliens. If they had that elevator in the 1969, why switch it to a box elevator then?! And then keep it until year 2012... or whatever that year was? It just... It doesn't make sense.
The third thing! The technolgy... They have the same guns, the have the same elevator... But they don't have hyperspeed in the cars? ... WHAT?! You know what we get instead? Jetpacks... No no! Not the kind of jetpacks in Spy Kids and GTA, no! These are bigger, I don't really know how to explain them, but they're as tall as a human and you kan stand on them and they're half a orb... Ish. If you can build those jetpacks... Why couldn't you build a little red button that takes you into hyperspeed in the cars! Oh! And you know what else they got? Motorcycles that.... No! I can't... This is too much! The logic has gone to outer space and then exploded while crashing into the alien ship that attack the creators brain while making this movie!
I don't really know what to say about it. I definitly didn't hate it or dislike it. But I don't know if I like it... But it was a series of weird stuff put together so probably when I think about it I'll realize that I like it.
It was the Jim Henson company that also created Labyrinth. First I thought about Never Ending Story but something didn't feel right about that... No, it wasn't like the Never Ending Story. Then Labyrinth came to mind and yes. This was like Labyrinth but with a much better twist. I'm not gonna tell you the twist because it's REALLY good to my oppinion and I don't want to ruin it. So I'm gonna try and tell you the story.
This girl is pretty unhappy with the life she has... well, at first it appears that way, but due to her mother being sick and getting to the hospital she gets a reality check and is concerned when her mother is getting an operation. Suddenly she wakes up one night and finds that her world isn't what she thinks it is. She had woken up in a mysterious and weird world where darkness threaten to swallow the whole kingdom. We discover pretty fast that the things that are happening in this world are pretty simular to a story our main character came up with in the beginning. So it is pretty simular to Labyrinth but where in Labyrinth they only left a few hints that it was her imagination she was reliving this movie shows that it's her imagination. And that's pretty much the story. She of course comes across many different people on her journey to solve the clues to get home and to save the kingdom and it's very entertaining.
So the bad thing about it... It's fast paced. It threw me off very much and that's a major thing to why I'm a little confused on what I think about it. It's many "and then suddenly this happens!" and it throws you off, especially in the beginning.
The other thing I didn't like.... I'm not sure that I like the main character. She's not really interesting and it feels like she's just playing a role. That can be because it's so fast paced because she changes expression pretty fast. She can go from exploring seriousness to giggle and enjoying. So that threw me off too.
Also the music some times doesn't mach but it's not that many times I felt like that so it's just a nippick.
So what's good about it? Two major things.. That is the artistic way they shot it and the story. Damn! This is a VERY good looking movie. The lighting and the make up in this movie are FANTASTIC! It looks great! Also even though it's fast paced the story really is good. The twist I loved and you can never guess what's happening. I tried to guess but never figured it out and the use of the MirrorMask... I thought it was brilliant. I was impressed that they actually could come to this conclusion. Lately I think movies are forgetting the little details they have in the movies because it's little details. But here, I didn't have any question left in my mind because all the questions I had were answered... OK, maybe not all, but most of them. So I really liked that!
So that's my review. I don't really know what to think of it because of the disturbences, but I'd say GO SEE IT!! I'm gonna recomend it to many of my friends, don't know if they'll like it but it's an art that you need to see, doesn't matter if you like it or not. So! There you go! See you next time!
(I appolgize if there's gramatic mistakes and spelling mistakes and everything but... I'm writing this when I'm sick and yeah... I apologize but hope you enjoy it anyway ^^ Good night!)
All right... This movie... I don't know what to think of it. It isn't bad... It isn't great, but it's... Ok... I think I like it.. the first half anyway. And of course I'm gonna tell you why.
First a quick sum up of what the movie is about. It's pretty much Battle Royal. Although I don't remember that movie too well, there was a lot going on that I didn't understand. And for you who haven't seen it yet... Go see it! If you wanna stay here and read my review further first, but you have to promise me that you'll see Battle Royal. Good. But this sets around the future pretty much, but a future that have ranks... Kind of. There are those district that are poor and don't have much at their feets while others are pretty rich and have all that futuristic things. So one woman and one man are being chosen for a thing called the Hunger Games... Why they have a game like this I don't know... They explain it briefly in the movie and yeah... After a two hour movie you've forgotten what that reason was because a lot of other things happened. Why is it called Hunger Games? They don't explain. So that was a little disappointing. But yeah! Anyway... They send this woman and man to a city where the games take place and what is this game? 24 people is put together in the same stadium but there's only 1 that comes out. It's a game of survival and kill. So a lot of stuff happens in between as you can guess but that's the summary of the plot pretty much. If you want to know more, proceed, but the next context have spoilers in them so if you don't want to ruin the movie go see it. For the others... I'm gonna sum up now what I liked and disliked.
What I really liked about this movie was that they could get the feeling across in some of the scenes. The first scenes are put there to see how our main character is living her life and what she deals with everyday. She is pretty much living in the past, with old clothes, bathtubes and houses. Those scenes are pretty long, but they're there to build up what she experience later. They're not too long though, but yeah. you get the feeling of how she sees the world. Then she valonteers to the hunger games and is send off to this futuristic world with... Yeah, those houses you pretty much can see today and in Star Wars. And I really felt what she was going through. The running scenes they did great. They went by quick and the camera angles are great, I didn't feel dizzy like I can feel in some movies when they run and have a moving camera, but this movie did that great. There is a sadful deathscene in this which they handled great, but I have a little nippick about it, I'm putting that to the things I didn't like, and you really felt the sorrow out main character was going through. And she wasn't sad in like five minutes and then she forgets it, no. She is sad in about twenty minutes and then she forgets about it....... She had taken out her sorrow, so it's fine! She was still in the game and that pretty much distracted her. But yeah.. They got the emotions in the movie really well and I think that's what makes it SO good.
The music I liked. It fits in with the tone it was going and it helped with the story and I didn't felt distracted by it. It's not like with Tron where I only thought of the music because it was so damn good, but it's not like with 7 Ghost where the music was so bad that I got distracted by it. So the music was good, especially the end song. That I actually pointed at the screen and said: I want that!
The makeup was good, the clothes design was good and yeah, the design in generall I liked. So yeah... Nothing groundbreaking but it was OK. Although the make up artist must have extra credit because that was great. There were many times I thought it was good make up.
All right... Now to the things I didn't like..... The small ones first. This is to my personal oppinion and so here goes. I didn't like the first action scene. There was this first battle and think about that. So far they've played with this is a new world for our main character, she used to a crappy bathtub and old clothes and suddenly she comes into this world where everything is bright and big and stuff like that, the clothes are on fire and she's fine! ... Then to the first battle... They plat music over it! ... What? This is the time where you should have no music playing and we only hear screams and bones getting wrecked and.. This is a serious moment, because before this everything was happy, they were just nervous over the games but everything was bright and they still had time and so on and so on.. The first battle is the sign of "this shit just got real" and you don't play music over that scene! The sound of the battle should play there to show the reality of it. You were so good with the emotions in the rest of the movie, why not there? Was the guy sick that day or something? I don't know, but that threw me off a little...
The other little thing was the death of that one caracter where you should feel sad... Yeah, the main character mourns and stuff and calms the person down and then screams... But then she picks flowers and lay them around the body and puts a BUQUET on the chest.... Did you just forget that you're in a freaking killing game? Where everyone is trying to haunt you down? When did you have the time to do this? And after that she sits down on the ground and cries.. Ok, fine, do that but look for shelter first!! Find a safe spot to cry! Then you can cry how much you want! ... That threw me off too, sure they were trying to get the emotion down, but... Calm the audience down first! If it's open they're just gonna look at the background or wait for one of the other game players to sneak up and kill her. That's the best way of getting this emotion down to the audience.
Yeah.... Now we come to the third thing I didn't like.... This thing is pretty much making me dislike this movie... But the first half is so good that I can't ignore it. Damn you movie! Oh well! The supporting character.... The man from the same district... I HATE HIM!! All he is a dumb fake smile. Through the entire movie and he's just unpleasant to follow. I shall explain why. The first time we see him is when they pick his name for the games. There he looks like a scared little boy who just want to wake up from this nightmare. The second time we see him, he is trying to get through to his survival, he's talking with everyone, he's tring to be optimistic and stuff like that, he get's on a TV show and pretty much says that he's in love with our main character. OK... We have no idea who you are, our main character doesn't really seem to know who you are... How can you say that you're in love with her? But they do explain it so it's OK. But then the game starts... The first thing we see him do is co-operating with the other team and tries to haunt her down... The woman you said you loved in TV.. you are just trying to kill the first thing you do! All right, maybe he did for just the crowd, playing with their heads to his advantage, Ok, I'll by it... It's not. They don't explain why he suddenly changes, they don't even talk about it. But wait! There's more! After the sadful death they announce that there can be two winners if they're both from the same district. So our main character naturally thinks of this man.... She just forgets that he was trying to kill her, wanted her dead, when the game started. Just forget about trying to co-operate with him and just kill him! You can't trust him! So just go out and try to win.... No. She finds him of course, and even he has forgotten that he wanted her dead in the beginning of the game.... He's not sayind sorry, he's not explaining why he did that nothing! They just forgets about it! All together!! .... I HATE HIM!!! He was pretty much unnecessary!! Stupid character...
Oh well! The last thing I'm gonna talk about is the ending. I didn't like it. It just stopes in the middle so it feels like it's going to be a sequal... But I don't know how they're going to continue it while keeping the tradition of "hunger games" The game is over and if you're having a sequal where they go through the game again... You can't do that. Because then you wouldn't continue on this story. You would create another story! But yeah... There were a lot of questions I didn't get an answer to and I hated the last part.... But the first part is so good!! It really is a split movie, it's a schizo movie! One side is good while the other is bad! That's what I really think about it.
So.. Do I recomend it? ... I'm split about that. The first part I recomend but the second part I think you shouldn't see. There is nothing there worth seeing. So... Go see it and get your own oppinion.
I'm going to talk about the build up I had with this movie, because I think it affects the way I saw it and therefore what I thought about it. So before I say what I think I'm gonna talk about it from the beginning.
I hadn't heard about this movie until I saw a trailer for it on Youtube. Then I saw that it was a Disney movie and I've had my history with Disney. I grew up with it and most of what I say, what I've learned comes from those movies, my humor comes from Disney, Disney is my whole childhood...... So, lately I've had my share of disappointments with Disney. I've noticed more and more that they're just doing a movie for the money, not to have a lesson learned or... yeah, a good moral to teach your children. Lately they haven't succeeded my expectations and they've just disappointed me al together so for a while I stopped watching Disney because I was tired of being disappointed of a company that practically raised me...
Then this movie popped up on my radar and I watched the trailer, american version.... I thought they were going to do another movie where they concentrate too much on the comedy and screw the story, like they did with Pirates of the Caribbean 2. But then I watched the japanese trailer and DAMN! That trailer made me shiver. I was intrigued to see the movie thanks to that trailer! That trailer was awsome! After that I was stuck on the movie, I listened to the music, I watched clips from it.... I was hooked and I just wanted to know more on how the story would be and what they were doing with it!
.... I must stop watching the new Disney movies... Another disappointment... I'm getting so tired of this! What's happening to you Disney?
Ok, so what's the story? .. Freaky Friday. Yeah! It's Freaky Friday! From the trailer and the beginning the narrator talks about fate and how she wants to change it and the movie is called BRAVE and... You're doing a Freaky Friday story..... *dies of disappointment* ......... OK, I'm back!
So it begins with our main character, the princess, is getting married. But she doesn't want to get married. She wants to be free and have an adventure, to go out and do whatever she wants! So she goes to a witch in the forest and asks for a spell that would change her fate. "Change my mum! That would change my fate right?" ... What?! You could've..... You could've gone SO far with this! Another fate! Another world! Start off with the cliché and then go for another thing in the end, something compeletly different! Do something with this!! No... We get Freaky Friday ><!!! So yeah, after this..... Her mother change into a bear. ... what..? And after that they're just learning from each other and of course they learn something about the world around them as well... It's Freaky Friday meets Brother Bear ><! Haven't you gone further from that?! ... Apparently not.
The things that are good, because I actually liked a lot before the story ruined everything! The animation is great of course! At least there they are improving. So it was really nice to look at... But really.. I just rather watch How to train your Dragon because it's the same animation and a better story.
The music is FANTASTIC! Check out the Soundtrack because it's really beautiful!
The witch I liked! I thought they were gonna go for a really comedian witch and screw the character. But no! They went for a really beliveable side to her and she was really funny to watch!
So was the princesses father! He was hillarious! And I really loved him! They didn't went too far with this character like they could have. I was so satisfied with that character! And it made sense that the princess would want to be a free spirit because her father was a free spirit and she looked up to him.
Her brothers were really enjoyable too. Once again, I thought they were going to go too far with these character too, but... At one point they do, but they're not in the movie for that long so that's fine. Most of the characters were really funny to watch......... They're just in the beginning and the ending... The rest of the movie focuses on the princess and the mother.
The mother is terrible! I'm sorry, I did not like her! She was just stereotypic! They wanted a mother that didn't listen and were just demanding and..... Yeah, that's it! She doesn't listen and she's demanding but the WORST part is... In the end SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER!! she doesn't learn anything! It's just the princess that learns a lesson and not the mother! So in the end she's still probably demanding and doesn't listen because she doesn't learn anything! I HATE THAT!!
I'm gonne be quick here because I have a time limit so I'm just gonna talk about another thing that bothered me... The pacing of this movie was HORRIBLE! It went through too fast, and there was just two scenes in the whole movie that took it's time and it was in the beginning before the princess meets the witch and at the ending when you have the little cry scene. And it was really annoying! It went really fast so you werent really allowed to take in the beautiful sets or to glance over the character when they interacted with each other! It just passed through really fast, if you blinked you probably would've missed it.
So to sum up... The things that was really bad about this movie were just three things. The story, the mother and the pacing. That's it! And apperantly that's all you need to destroy a movie! You have to think about the story first! And role with it! Think about what you've done before, how you can improve something you've already done and if you can bring something new in a well way... If you can't? It's just a waste of time, energy and money! THINK PEOPLE, THINK!
So that's my disappointment of Brave! .... I'm never gonna trust a commersial from Japan again... They make it too great -.-
I've seen many The three Musketeers even the Barbie one and it's embarrassing to confess that The Three Musketeers was WORSE than the Barbie one!
I'm talking about the one with the Orlando Bloom in it and I happen to like Orlando Bloom so that's not why I didn't like it! So let's move on!
There's really no reason to explain the story because you all know it. Some person working closely to the king wants more power so he's scheming to achive that goal and so on and so on... I have no idea how his plan to achive power works so don't ask me! I wasn't really paying attention to it because to me, it didn't really matter. So the movie is much about the three musketeers have broken down and trying to find their way back to the justice and everything.... Well... As much justice as the musketeers could give being so impatient and rebellious. Oh well! Little story, many flaws so let's move on!
I'm gonna start with the things I did like. The acting was pretty good. And the casting was good too. I liked seeing the people interact with each other... OK, I didn't like the King... But still, the actor who played him did well. I saw what they were going for and they successed with the very scene he was in because they had cast that person perfectly. So yeah, the acting was good and the casting.
The other thing I did like was the music. When the movie opened I thought I was going to have another experience like I had with TRON Legacy. But no, the music wasn't THAT awsome but never the less.. It was still pretty good and suited well with the theme.
Ok, now move on to the things I didn't like... Which one do you want to hear first? The biggest one? Ok!
It's actually two big things and both of them have to do with the style. I don't like that this movie has been told A MILLION times.. When this came out I was really sceptic to another Three Musketeers movie because... How can they do another version of this? Everybody has done it allready so stop it! Yet, I think it came at the same time as the Sherlock Holmes movie and that movie I liked. So I wanted to see this to see if they could do something diffirent like that movie did.... No. They don't. The style, characters, story, EVERYTHING has already been done in a MILLION movies involving the Three Musketeers. Why was this movie made, lots of money put into a story we've already heard SO many times -.-? Seems like a waste of time and money.... Oh well!
The other big thing was the humor... Damn this humor -.-! It feels like the second Pirates of the Caribbean movie where they were taking too much concentration to the humor and forgot everything else! They should be writing a adventure but the comedy came in the way... So the comedy was EVERYWHERE and it was childish and... It just made me sigh and not laugh and I was quickly bored by the movie just because of all the laughter they were trying to pull out of me.
So there's the two big things I didn't like... It pretty much sums up why I don't like it. It's done and tries too much.
Now I'm going to talk about the ending so... SPOILERS!
SPOILERS!!
The ending is... I have no idea... It just shows that this movie was unenesessary... To my part! Nothing really changes from the beginning of the movie.. The evil man isn't brought to justice, the king is still a brat and the people haven't been freed from an unjustice world. Nothing was accomplished! The only thing that were was the four people coming together and fight for another day. Nothing else changes. And it's pretty frustrating! Isn't the meaning of showing a piece of someones life that the person accomplished SOMETHING in that time period? Isn't that the meaning of showing it, or telling it? Have I missed something o.O?
I don't recomend this movie. I recomend the Barbie version instead of this! o.o ... That's bad. But the movie is good, so you shuold look into it. For a Barbie movie.. It's more than I expected. So.. yeah... I'm out...
