Speeches from Buffy the Vampire Slayer
I'm a big fan of Buffy the vampire slayer, love every minute of it and I never get tired of it. This is a list on my favorite speeches on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. There are a lot of speeches in the series, but there are few that stands out from the crowd and either bring you to tears or fill your heart with hope to continue fighting. Here are my favorites and why I like them, so you could probably guess that this is going to be a long post! … Hopefully I won't bore you XD
Season 1
“You missed one ball and the whole game was your fault? What, you were the only one playing? There wasn't eight other people on your team?”
Well, no this isn't a favorite speech.. But it was all that I could find in the first season. So obviously it has got to be on the list :P After all, this is speeches for every season. And that speech is true anyway so, better to mention it than not at all... Next season!
Season 2
“Passion. It lies in all of us, sleeping, waiting. And though unwanted, unbidden, it will stir, open its jaws and howl. It speaks to us, guides us. Passion rules us all and we obey. What other choice do we have? Passion is the source of our finest moments: the joy of love, the clarity of hatred, and the ecstasy of grief. It hurts sometimes more than we can bear. If we could live without passion, maybe we'd know some kind of peace, but we would be hollow: empty rooms, shuttered and dank. Without passion, we'd be truly dead.”
This is from the episode “Passion” where Angel kills Miss. Calender. He talks about passion and how it go through all of us, passion both burn and create and through this speech he makes it very clear what passion is and what it does to us. And it's so beautiful XD It took me long enough to find this speech, I looked over the season three times before I found it. Cruel, I know because I love it so much, but I always had in my head that there would be another speech, that would fill me with a deeper feeling. I love when Spike tries to convince Buffy that he'll help her. But it's not really a speech. It's just two people talking really... So I couldn't put it in. So I'm glad that I finally found this one ^^
Season 3
“Look, lots of people lose themselves in love. It's no shame. They write songs about it. The hitch is, you can't stay lost. And sooner or later you have to get back to yourself.”
“And if you can't?”
“If you can't, well, love becomes your master, and you're just its dog.”
This season was most about love, I think.. It was about Faiths father relationship with the mayor, Buffys relationship with Angel, in the episode “Love's Walk” we found out Dru had left Spike. Also it was in this season where Willow and Xander found deeper feelings for each other than friendship. So there was really difficult to find a speech that wasn't about love XD I also thought of the speech Spike gives out to Buffy and Angel. Where he explains that they will never be friends. But this spoke to me more. It speaks to everyone. We all have been lost in love in some point and that's what makes this speech even more powerful than “you'll fight, and you'll shag until it kills you”. That's why I love this speech. The metaphor of being the dog to love is just wonderful. I absolutely love it.
Season 4
Faith: “You got a pair on you, Joyce. I like seein' that in a woman your age. Guess you can afford to talk that way. I mean in the world according to Joyce Buffy is gonna come crashing through that door any minute. But... look what I found. Buffy Summers. Buffy Summers. Buffy Summers. Buffy, Buffy... A lot of letters. She hasn't been by in a while, huh? And you'd think, with a crazy chick like me on the loose, crazy chick with a wicked grudge against her no less, she'd call and give you a heads up. But Buffy's too into her own deal to remember dear old Mom.”
Joyce: “You don't know the first thing about Buffy. Or me.”
Faith: “Don't I? I know what it's like. You think you matter, you think you're a part of something, and you get dumped. It's like the whole world is moving, but you're stuck. Like those animals in the tarpits. It's like you just keep sinking a little deeper every day, and nobody even sees.”
Joyce: “Where you planning to slit my throat any time soon?”
Faith: “Don't tell me you don't see it, Joyce. You've served your purpose. You squirted out the kid, raised her up, and now you might as well be dead! Nobody cares! Nobody remembers! Especially not Buffy, fabulous superhero. Sooner or later, you're gonna have to face it. She was over us a long time ago, Joyce. Too busy climbing onto her new boy toy to give a single thought to the people that matter! I mean you're her mother, and she just leaves you here to die!”
Here's another powerful speech where we all can sympathy with Faith. In her world, she is just a rock beside a mountain that is Buffy. In the third season we hear Faith say “I do my job better than anyone and who does everybody thank? Buffy.” In this speech in season four we get a little more on Faiths pain, what she's going through. I love it because.. It starts off gentle, where Faith compare her life to Joyces. Then it becomes more wild and her tone changes to lot of pain and that pain transforms into hate. The actor is doing a great job performing this speech and it's so wonderful to listen at. Great writing, great performance, what else can you expect from this show?
Season 5
“But I don't understand! I don't understand how this all happens, how we go through this. I mean, I knew her, and then she's... There's just a body. And I don't understand why she just can't get back in it and not be dead any more. It's stupid. It's mortal and stupid. And Xander's crying and not talking. And I was having fruit punch. And I thought... “Well, Joyce will never have any more fruit punch ever, and she'll never have eggs, or yawn or brush her hair, not ever.” And no one will explain to me why.”
Oh God... I cry every time I hear this speech. I get teary eyes just by thinking it XD Sorry, it's just.. This whole episode called “The body” scares me. It's unpleasant to look at, it gives me chills every time, so much that I can't watch it as many times as I've seen the other episodes... and it's a masterpiece! The absent of the music, the great performances, the camera shots, the sounds... Everything is so well thought, everything fits into the story, everything is perfect! That's why it scares me. This speech gives me so many feelings and it works so well. It's absolutely wonderful! Do I need to say more?
Season 6
Tara: “Things fall apart. They fall apart so hard.”
Willow: “Tara?”
Tara: “You can't ever... put 'em back the way they were.”
Willow: “Are you OK?”
Tara: “I'm sorry. It's just... You know , it takes time. You can't just... have coffee and expect...
Willow: “I know.”
Tara: “There's just so much to work through. Trust has to be built again, on both sides. You have to learn if... if we're even the same people we were, if you can fit in each other's lives. It's a long... important process. Can we just skip it? Can you just be kissing me now?”
Now, this isn't really a speech, I know... But I just love to hear it! You can call a small speech because Tara is talking about getting back together with an ex. Many people have done it and she says that you have to think about so many things before you rushes in to a relationship. Not just with your ex. With anyone. It's a long important process. But in the end she realizes that she can't live without Willows love. She loves her too much to start over, she couldn't wait until they held each other and confessed their love. It's so beautiful and again, this is a speech that makes me cry. Just because it's so beautiful XD Also I take the opportunity to say that Tara's death is wonderful made! The fact that she comments on Willows shirt before she drops and dies.. Willow who can't quite understand what is going on before she holds onto her body. It's sad and perfect. This show has never disappointed me! This season was no exception. Probably my favorite season, but I don't know.. It's a hard pick!
Season 7
Buffy: “You're right. We don't know how to fight it. We don't know when it'll come. We can't run, can't hide. Can't pretend it's not the end, cos it is. Something is always been there to try and destroy the world. We've beaten them back. But we're not dealing with them any more. We're dealing with the reason they exist. Evil. The strongest. The First.”
Giles: “Buffy, umm... I know you're very tired...”
Buffy: “I'm beyond tired. I'm beyond scared. I'm standing on the mouth of hell, and it is gonna swallow me whole. And it'll choke on me. We're not ready. They're not ready. They think we're gonna wait for the end to come, like we always do. I'm done waiting. They want an apocalypse? Well, we'll give 'em one. Anyone else who wants to run, do it now. Cos we just became an army. We just declared war. From now on, we won't just face our worst fears, we will seek them out. We will find them and cut out their hearts one by one, until the First shows itself for what it really is. And I'll kill it myself. There is only one thing on this earth more powerful than evil, and that's us. Any questions?”
This season... I go back and forward about this season. I don't know if I like it or hate it. Probably because it's the last season and that irritates me. But there is another reason. Or lots of other reasons XD 1. Buffy is starting to become a superior bitch who thinks she's better than everyone. 2. Spike goes soft. 3. There's not many funny talks anymore, just speeches of surviving and pain. 4. Those potentials... I really hated them. They were lost girls who floated around like kids and it wasn't amusing to watch. Sorry, but that's my opinion. Although there is lots of moments that I like in this season. Like this speech. It always fills me up with hope and happiness. It shows why Buffy is the leader and it makes me want to follow her because she knows what she's doing. Later on though she just becomes a babbling person who can give a speech about anything. I also like the speech that Xander holds about Buffy. “She has literally died twice to save the world”. Although this gave me, again, more feelings.
That's my list! Hope you enjoyed it and.. Even though Buffy's out from TV.. Buy the DVDs! You'll have fun watching them and watch the commentaries as well! They are really funny! Joss really knows how to entertain as well as educate us! See you next time

Seven Pounds
To think that the first movie I write about here is someone I didn't like -.-
I think I expected more than I got... And I didn't expect much! I can say this: I didn't know what the hell was going on. And I don't feel like I got an explanation. Never in the whole movie did they explain what was going on. You had to guess it all! It felt like they were laying a puzzle before you with 1000 pieces and said: “Here! Solve this!” I mean... That doesn't work for me. It's ok if it where like a detective movie or what you call those, because even with those you get an explanation afterwards.. A motive, some back story and stuff like that. That can be interesting even if I'm no fan of those... But this movie plaid it out that you had to solve the puzzle you self. It gives you all the pieces, but they forgot the motive. That really bugged me... And.. They saved all the given explanations to the end of the movie... So for one hour you go like “What? Why? How? Huh?!” And when you finally get SOME answers you still have some more questions that's rolling in your head. And before you know it... They show you the end credits... That really pissed me off.
The movie starts with the ending (Sometimes that works, but some people can't handle it that good) And directly after that I had some questions... “Is this before or after the movie?” But I let that question go as I guessed that I would found it out later. Then the main character says that God created the world in seven days. Another question popped into my head.. “Didn't God create the world in six days and on the seventh day he rested? That's why Sunday is a day off?” So that bugged me in ten minutes... And another thing that bugged me shortly after that... There was this one cameraman that couldn't hold the camera still. In some shots that works, but not when people are just talking to each other! I've seen that mistake (to me it's a mistake) in many new movies actually and that always bugs me somehow. Sometimes I can ignore it if the rest of the movie is good, but even if this movie was good that scene would still drive me crazy. The camera was shaking like someone was running with it! You know that old people (Sorry) are shaking very much? I'm not saying that all old people do that, but I've forgotten what that certain sickness is called right now, but I hope you get the idea. The camera was shaking like someone like that hold it! Wouldn't that bug you too?
There was also another thing I noticed.. The edit was terrible! There was this one shot on the two characters from the above and they held it for 5 seconds! The shot didn't look good, it wasn't necessary and it destroyed the scene. It irritated me. Also there was this one shot in a car and they held the camera really wrong so the character's eyes got cut off until someone told her to lean forward so she'll be in the picture... WHAT THE HELL?! Move the camera man a little to the right and the shot would work! That did not work! There was a lot of those scenes!
SPOILER
Ok, now I'm gonna talk about the story... It would've been a good story if they did it right! The main character's name is Ben Thompson... Or is it? I don't know! It just came out of nowhere! We follow Ben(?) and sees that he helps people who deserves it... Why? I don't know! That also came out of nowhere! Ben is troubled. Why? I think it's because he was too worked up in his work more than the woman he loved. I found that out when it was just ten minutes left on the movie! Before that it was only clips on him doing God knows what. But I think he thinks that he is responsible for her death. They were driving and he got a text message and decided to answer on it real quick, this would've been great message to tell everyone to knock off they're phone while driving... Too bad they only show it for five seconds and after that everything happened too fast so you can't really follow that! People can't usually see what's in front of their eyes so you have to wave it better in front of them! Well you can probably guess what's happening next... You think he'll drive off the road? Wrong! You think he'll crash into another car? Wrong! He ducks (Can't come up with a better word right now) and slides off the road and the other car, a truck, is flying over the road and rolling over so that Those people die too... At least I think they do, I don't really know that much about what happens to them though they never explain that either.. What do you think happens after that? He'll wake up on a hospital? No... He wakes up in the car watching his wife dead? No... He walks towards the car and then kneels beside his wife who lies on the ground.... When did he got out from the car? Why isn't he dead like his wife? What happened?! .. they don't explain it.
Also I said that I don't really know what his name is... Here's why: He has a brother.. In one scene he confront the main character and says “Tim”... Ok.. After that he says “Get me my ID” Ok.. Did he steal his identity? In that case why? But there's more! After that Ben or Tim is saying again and again that he'll explain the next day. Only he can get to the house and talk to his date.. The brother says “No! Give me the car keys, I'm not going anywhere!” Ben or Tim says Ok, goes inside.. Tries to say to his date that he needs to go.. She doesn't want him to leave and convinces him with a kiss on the cheek. After that they have sex..... HIS BROTHER IS OUTSIDE WAITING!!! He even said that he would drag Ben or Tim out of there if he didn't came out! But the movie never stops surprise you! The brother doesn't come up. In the same scene they have some more clips that made me confused on which timezone I was in, but that wasn't that important. Ben or Tim gets out of the house and I thought the brother would confront him again to have that talk he had been nagging about... He is not there. In this point I loudly sighed at the movie and stopped caring! I thought I was going to be given the answers at the end so I stopped puzzling in the middle of it and waited for the end (Just so you know.. That's NOT good!) and yeah...
SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER!
Ben or Tim kills himself I think I know why, but... I'm not really sure.. And after that he donates his heart to his dying date that he had sex with when his brother was NOT waiting outside. Ok, that's kind and I liked that part, but it could've been done better! After she wakes up and he is dead she gets a talk with Ben or Tims brother.. He says that Ben or Tim had donated a lot of organs to people. He also said a bunch of other stuff that I didn't quite catch.. Something about a lightning or... I don't know! It just made me confused and made me think about how Zeus must've had a REALLY bad day! I guess he was someone who donated organs to people or something like that but you don't really get an explanation. The movie ends there... Kind of.
I wanted to see something that Will Smith made in I, Robot... An explanation on WHY he hated the robots! Just him talking to the girl he liked.. No! We don't get any of that! He just shuts himself up and never talks about himself...... GRRRR!!!! I still have some questions that needs answers! Where did this organs donating mania come from?! Before his wife death he was busy with work! So when did he start donate? WHY?! Something like that is a REAL big deal and a person doesn't just wake up one morning and says “I'm gonna kill myself today and donate my organs to those who deserves it!” … NO! That has to come from somewhere! And I wanna know why! If this movie was done correctly, put some more thought around the big stuff it could've been real touching. It could've made me cry.. But instead it made me sigh loudly! SIGH!
No! Sorry, but I did not think this move was good! Will Smith is great and I love him, but... He can't make a movie great by himself.. He really can't.
